Our Chosen Charities for 2019

21 February 2019

We are pleased to announce our chosen charities for 2019. Following a successful year of fundraising in 2018, we will once again be supporting St John’s Hospice and Unique Kidz and Co.

St John’s Hospice is a local charity which provides palliative care to patients with life-shortening conditions. The charity serves a population of over a quarter of a million people living in North Lancashire, South Lakes and some parts of North Yorkshire. It was established in 1986 and has been part of the local community for over thirty years, providing vital services to patients and families in the area every minute of every day. In fact, since opening its doors in 1986, those doors have never closed.

Unique Kids and Co was founded in 2009 by two mothers, Denise and Jane, who wanted to provide suitable childcare for their own disabled children, and other disabled children. They wanted to give the children a chance to socialise and play with friends, to advance the social and play opportunities available to young people with additional needs and disabilities, and to include their siblings.

In 2009, Unique Kidz and Co’s first ever Summer Holiday Club ran, attended by sixty-five children. Ten years down the line, the services have expanded and the charity now operates from its base in Morecambe and includes 4Ever Unique, a daytime support service for young adults up to the age of twenty-five which opened in 2016.

In May 2018, we tackled the gruelling Keswick to Barrow Walk (K2B), raising valuable funds for St John’s Hospice and Unique Kidz and Co. Later on in the year, our Project Manager, Donna Tyson, took part in the St John’s Hospice Moonlight Walk, an event which has raised in excess of £1 million for the charity.

This year, we will once again take in the beautiful scenery of the Lake District, walking the forty-two miles from Keswick to Barrow. But on the same day, almost one hundred and fifty miles away, another team will be putting their personal fitness, courage, determination and teamwork to the test as they take on one of the toughest obstacle course challenges – Born Survivor, the ultimate military obstacle course challenge. You can’t say we don’t like a challenge!

Please keep an eye on our website and social media pages for sponsorship details. We hope we can raise as much money as possible for these two fabulous charities.”
