A huge thank you
15 May 2019
We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored us for our charity challenges, raising money for St. John’s Hospice and Unique Kidz and Co, LARS Communications’ chosen charities for 2019.
Thanks to your generous donations, we have raised over £1700 for these fantastic causes and it made all the effort and our early starts worthwhile.
On Saturday morning, the LARS Drifters made their way to Keswick for the start of the Keswick to Barrow walk, a daunting forty-mile hike up hill and down dale, taking in some of the Lake District’s finest scenery. Business Development Manager, Julian Cooper, was eager to beat last year’s time and was not disappointed, finishing the walk fifty minutes faster (apparently his beloved Leeds United were playing, so he was keen to watch as much of the game as possible).
Meanwhile, a LARS team headed to Cheshire for the Born Survivor event at Capesthorne Hall. While LARS’ riggers are not averse to climbing over 300 metres up the tallest structures in the country, installing radio infrastructure in the some of the more remote locations in the UK, this was a very different kettle of fish. This was the ultimate military obstacle course challenge, designed by ex-Royal Marine Commandos. Monkey bars over water, dark tunnels and barbed wire crawls were just part of the 10km route which tested all those taking part to their limit, not just physically, but mentally too.
But we’re pleased to say that they all completed the challenge and there’s even some talk of returning next year. Of course, when we see the amazing work which these two charities do on a daily basis, it makes our efforts pale by comparison.
St. John’s Hospice has been serving the population of South Lakes, North Yorkshire and North Lancashire for over thirty years, providing palliative care to people with life-shortening conditions. Since opening its doors in 1986, it has been providing care every hour of every day.
Unique Kidz and Co was set up in 2009 to provide care for young people with additional needs and disabilities. Today the charity delivers its service to more than one-hundred and thirty children and young adults, offering support activities, play and social time. In 2016, the charity extended its offering, creating 4Ever Unique, a service for young adults aged from sixteen to twenty-five.
We would just like to reiterate our gratitude for all your kind donations. And it’s not too late to make a donation. We’ve included our sponsorship details below, and we’ll also feature on our social media pages. Any donations for these fantastic charities will be very gratefully received. Thank you.
