Tower Transit

20 May 2021

Tower transitWe are thrilled to introduce our new Scania R420-8 Wheeler, the perfect solution for our customers’ tower transit requirements. This is an exciting new addition to the LARS vehicle fleet and reduces the need for outsourcing tower transit to third parties for many of our customers’ projects.

The Technical Bit

The Scania R420 is equipped with an onboard crane, as well as mounted crane stabilisers. The crane itself is capable of lifting up to a height of 12.2 metres and a weight of 3.5 tonnes. The total payload capacity is 11 tonnes.

That’s the technical stuff out of the way!

The exciting part is that we can now transport many of our towers to sites across the UK (and further afield if required) meaning we can offer our customers even greater control from start to finish.

Which means that from the initial design, through fabrication, tower transit and ultimately the installation, this is truly a full turnkey solution.

The truck, which has been kitted out with our easily recognisable LARS livery, has already been put to good use, travelling the length of the United Kingdom. Its most recent trip was to the north-east, where we were installing a fibre exchange compound in Middlesborough. Prior to that, we’ve taken it to Scotland, delivering steelwork for a tower installation project just outside Glasgow, and we’ve driven it down to Oxfordshire, delivering steelwork for a tower strengthening and remedial upgrades project.
